Super Bowl Venues

Majority of the Super Bowl games that were held were played in one of the three most frequent cities that were used as the game's venue so far. These three cities are New Orleans in Louisiana, the Greater Miami Area and the Greater Los Angeles Area. In fact 25 out of the 41 games that were ever played were held in one of these three cities. New Orleans and the Greater Miami Area have been the Super Bowl venues for nine times each and the Greater Los Angeles area has been the game's venue for seven times. Following these would Florida, Tampa and San Diego, which have hosted the Super Bowl thrice each.

Some of the stadiums where the Super Bowl was held are Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Miami Orange Bowl, Tulane Stadium, Rice Stadium, Rose Bowl, Louisiana Superdome, Tampa Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium and a lot more.

The venue for the Super Bowl games is usually chosen by the National Football League or NFL around 3 to 5 years prior to the game actually being held. Typically, different cities place their bids to be able to host the Super Bowl. After the bids have been received, the NFL owners have a meeting to select, decide and finalise the location. The venues for the next 4 years of the Super Bowls have already been decided, up to 2011 Super Bowl XLV. There was also a suggestion made by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in October of 2007 that there could be a Super Bowl which would be played in London.

LED Lenser; Technology Yields Survival and Convenience

Think quickly - if you found yourself stranded far from home with no easy access to things like lights, running water and shelter, what things would you want to have at your side? If you suddenly found your modern home without the power to run such conveniences as electric lights, can openers and microwave oven, what should you have at hand to get you through the hours or days till those utilities returned?

The U.S. government recommends that every citizen should have - either in their home or in their car - 72 Hour Survival Kit, and if you've thought about the questions above, it should come as no surprise that two of the first items listed in that kit are a knife and a flashlight. No matter what your emergency may be, a source of light and a good cutting edge will always be important.

A Swiss army knife has been a mainstay of survival gear for decades. More than just a cutting tool, a well-chosen Swiss army knife is a survival kit in a compact, folding package. There's far more to them than the one or two cutting blades and the bottle opener that features in most of the cheaper knives. Features that are important in a Swiss army knife include:

- locking blade

- compact size

- lightweight

- sharp, durable cutting blades

- at least one sawing blade

- a can/bottle opener

- a flint

A Swiss army knife is not, strictly speaking, a survival knife, though. For that, most survival experts recommend a fixed blade knife that can be used for cutting, sawing, knife hunting, skinning, cleaning, notching and a multitude of other uses. There are dozens of available styles and types of survival knife, making it easy to choose the best one for your use. The most valuable of them combine a sturdy, sharp, fixed blade with a hollow handle that holds the most important items for you to have with you in an emergency. Those items may include matches, tinder, aspirin, disinfectant, a small flashlight or signaling device and a whistle. Before choosing a survival knife, you should check your state and city statutes to ensure that the knife you want to purchase doesn't violate any laws.

If the last time you bought a new flashlight was more than a few years ago, you may be surprised at what technology has wrought in just a few short years. LED technology has given us a new class of LED flashlights that won't die on you just when you need them most. LED - light emitting diodes - technology has been used for decades in such things as watch displays and digital alarm clocks, but they were always considered too expensive and too low powered to be used for workhorse lighting tasks like flashlights and emergency lights. As late as 2002, one of the leading researchers in the field of lighting estimated that LED lights would be in common use in the home within twenty years. A year later, he admitted that he had grossly miscalculated because, "...we erred in presuming only incremental advances and excluding... major technological breakthroughs.." Those breakthroughs made it far less expensive to manufacture LED lights, and brought them within the price range of the everyday consumer.

So why should you consider replacing your common flashlights with LED flashlights? The reasons range from better light to longer battery life. They include:

• LED flashlights use a two-step process that produces light that is closer to natural sunlight. And unlike typical flashlights that go out when the battery power is low, LED flashlights often continue to function at a dimmer brightness for hours or even days.

• The bulb in LED flashlights draws far less power, increasing battery life astronomically - some LED lights boast battery life of over 50,000 hours. No more frustration of worn-out batteries, or lights that die when you need them most.

• Unlike typical tungsten lights, LED flashlights are sturdy enough to withstand being jostled and dropped. In tests, every LED flashlight dropped from 4-6 feet onto concrete survived and continued to provide strong, bright light.

• LED flashlights come in sizes from tiny to super - small enough to hang from a keychain to full size utility lights that can illuminate an entire room.

Indeed, flashlights are not the only LED lighting that you'll find handy in an emergency. Battery operated LED kitchen lighting can provide illumination not only in an emergency, but in areas that overhead and typical lighting doesn't reach. A few strategically placed under counter LED lamps or sticks can make it easy to find pots and pans or stored foods in dark spaces. Likewise, LED lamps mounted on the wall of a closet, crawlspace or attic can help prevent accidents and make it far easier to find precisely what you're looking for.

If you haven’t considered your 72 Hour Kit, this is an excellent time to put one together. Today’s modern technology offers many options to ensure that you’re prepared for any emergency that might happen.

LED Headlamps - Which Industries Benefit Most?

Headlamp technology has come a long way since it was first introduced, with LED lights sources now replacing the candles and light bulbs of previous decades. LED headlamps are used in a number of different industries but there are three specific industries which have gotten the most use out of them (and as such have helped them to evolve into the lightweight and long-lasting versions that are used today.) These key industries are coal mining, search and rescue, and industrial manufacturing, and each of them makes use of headlamps in a slightly different way.

Coal Mining
Having a reliable light source is essential to coal mining, since miners spend much of their time deep underground where no natural light can reach. Early mining headlamps made use of small oil lamps that worked like helmet-mounted candles, but this presented a dangerous situation when pockets of natural gas were encountered or large amounts of coal dust was present. Because safety in the mines is a major concern, an alternative had to be found in order to let coal miners do their job without the danger of fire or explosion.

Battery-powered lanterns were used for years, though the batteries made mining helmets even heavier than they already were. The development of the LED headlamp was the answer to the miners' prayers, allowing them a sturdy and reliable light source that did not need heavy battery packs to keep them going. LED lights provided a better quality light than the early alternatives as well, reducing strain on the miners' eyes.

Search and Rescue
Unlike coal miners, most search and rescue workers spend the majority of their time working outdoors. This does not mean that their work isn't hazardous; the lives of adults and children often hang in the balance and rescue crews need to be able to respond to a variety of terrain and weather related situations quickly and efficiently. This efficiency can be greatly reduced by having to carry around a flashlight or battery-powered lantern. Being able to don a LED headlamp makes this important job much easier. The lightweight LED lights are usually sealed so as to be waterproof, so search and rescue workers not only have their hands free but they are also able to do their job effectively regardless of the weather outside.

Industrial Manufacturing
Industrial manufacturing is definitely not easy work, and in most cases whatever job an industrial worker is doing will require them to have both of their hands free to do it. This is fine for line workers who are doing their jobs in well-lit areas, but it can be a major inconvenience for warehouse workers and those who are performing maintenance because they often must venture into the corners and darker areas of the facility. LED headlamps let them have plenty of light where they need it while keeping their hands free, and the LED lights are generally durable enough that they can take a few bangs and impacts without having to worry about breaking a bulb.

Green Living Through LED Home Lighting

More and more home, apartment and office owners are looking for ways to go green. The benefits not only improve the quality of our environment, but they also make for significant tax deductions at the end of the year. As energy efficiency is becoming more prevalent in household lighting and home lighting design is becoming more popular, it is no surprise that LED lights are coming to the forefront as a leading choice for illumination.

We are all familiar with the traditional incandescent light bulb. These bulbs are filled with a gas and then a filament is stretched across the inside. When electricity is run across the filament, it heats up to often very high temperatures. The bulb's glow is a result of the filament heating up. The heat is a result of wasted energy. Incandescent bulbs also suffer from inherent fragility. These lights weaken over time as the heat separates atoms from the whole and causes thin spots in the filament. Eventually these thin spots will break and you will need to replace the bulb.

An alternative light to the incandescent is the halogen bulb. In a halogen bulb the envelope that holds the filament is a lot smaller, made of quartz and is filled with a halogen gas. These bulbs can burn a bit brighter and will last for longer periods of time. It is halogen lighting that is currently used quite often by movie theaters, television studios and movie sets. These bulbs are still heat inefficient, however. The most common halogen light used for indoor and outdoor home lighting is the twelve volt MR16 halogen light.

The LED, light-emitting diode, bulb is a culmination of the best of both the incandescent and halogen worlds but with the efficiency that neither can provide. In an LED bulb, the science on which it is based is completely different from the other two options. There is no filament and very little heat. The light source is a diode that emits light when electricity is applied. This mechanism for creating light allows for much lower energy use, brighter light, and longer lasting bulbs.

One of the most common LED home light bulbs available is the LED Lenser Leflector. These bulbs can replace any halogen bulb up to twenty watts. The leflector can burn continuously for more than 50,000 hours before needing to be replaced. That is more than five years of continuous use and over thirty years if the bulbs burn an average of four hours a day. They are over ninety percent more efficient than a halogen bulb and can be operated for pennies a year. These features make them perfect for moving your home - kitchen, living room, game room; you name it - to a more environmentally conscious dwelling.

Outdoor applications for LED lights are many. They work well for outdoor accent lighting because of the many color options available and can be adjusted to be both spotlights and security flood lights.

Updating light fixtures in a home or office is an excellent way to reduce household costs, save energy and at the same time improve upon your home lighting design.
